Health Hazards Working On An Electroplating Line

Are there any health hazards associated with working on an electroplating line?

The answer is YES.

Prolonged exposure to the electroplating process can be harmful to the body.

Long-term plating operators may suffer from skin diseases, pharyngitis, and other diseases.

The main occupational hazard of electroplating is exposure to a variety of harmful gases and solutions. When chromium plating, the concentration of chromic acid in the air around the bath is high and long-term exposure can lead to nasal septal perforation, skin ulcers, dermatitis, eczema, and in some cases bronchial asthma. Exposure to nickel sulfate during nickel plating can also cause dermatitis and eczema. When plating with alkaline chromium salts, hydrogen cyanide can escape. If the cyanide in the plating solution meets acid, high concentrations of hydrogen cyanide can be produced, which can cause acute poisoning and even threaten life.
