Why Does Plastic Electroplating Need Acid Degreasing

Many plastic electroplated parts look white and clean, but there may be various greases or organic substances. Therefore, the current ABS plastic electroplating line is equipped with a process of degreasing and dewaxing before plating. The ABS electroplating line is also equipped with an acidic degreasing process after alkaline degreasing.

We know that alkaline degreasing is mostly composed of caustic soda, sodium carbonate, trisodium phosphate and some auxiliary agents. High temperature and high alkali will cause the water vapor and air contained in the skin part of the plastic electroplating products to expand and form small bubbles. On the other hand, due to the action of the degreasing agent, silicates and alkali salts are formed on the surface of the plastic electroplating products. The film, even some surfactants have a strong affinity with the resin, etc., which will affect the uniformity and effect of the ABS electroplated parts during the roughening treatment. At this time, after alkaline degreasing, add sulfuric acid or chromic acid and surface regulator solution to soak to further surface treatment of plastic electroplating products. So as to achieve the purpose of neutralizing the lye and fine-tuning the surface. It is more conducive to the uniform coarsening and wetting of the surface product. Improve the adhesion between the product and the coating.
