Electroplating grade PP polypropylene plastic is directly used in electroplating because of its high crystallinity, so the surface coarsening is more difficult. The blending modification of polypropylene plastics makes the polypropylene plastics mixed with inorganic powder, and dissolves under the effect of acid, resulting in tiny holes on the plastic surface, thus greatly increasing its specific surface area. and make c-c bond oxidation and break to form hydrophilic hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, so as to achieve the purpose of hydrophilicity on the plastic surface.
With the development of nanomaterials, it is found that the modified polypropylene obtained by blending ultra-fine caco3 powder with polypropylene plastic is coarsened by ultrasonic acid solution, and its surface is metallized by electroless copper plating after the same sensitivity and activation as ABS plastic, and the coating with excellent adhesion can be obtained by electroplating. The polypropylene plastic modified by ultra-fine caco3 powder can be used as the raw material of electroplating grade polypropylene plastic.
1 the test spectrograph includes: CMT all-round testing machine, XJJ impact machine, XNR melt flow velocity calibrator, SHR 10a high-speed mixer, SYM 800injection molding machine, TE35 extruder. The inorganic fillers and polypropylene and a number of suitable auxiliaries were stirred evenly in a high-speed mixer, then granulated by an extruder, and then the standard test piece was made into a standard test piece by injection molding mechanism for various functional tests and electroplating tests. the coating adhesion of electroplating products was measured by bending method.
2 results and discussion 2.1 performance test of polypropylene modified by inorganic fillers the physical properties of the standard test pieces were tested on an all-round testing machine and an impact machine, and 8 pieces of each sample were taken as equal values. From the test results, the tensile strength decreased slightly with the addition of fillers, but not much different, while the notched impact strength increased with the addition of fillers. It can be seen that the addition of 15% inorganic filler in polypropylene has little effect on the physical properties of polypropylene, but the shrinkage of the workpiece during injection molding is greatly improved.
2.2 coarsening test of polypropylene modified by fillers: composition and process conditions of coarsening solution: H2SO4400g Universe, temperature > 75 ℃, ultrasonic 300w, 30khz. Its hydrophilicity is expressed by whether there is a symmetrical water film on the surface, and the coarsening results are shown in Table 2. The experimental results show that the coarsening effect of polypropylene modified by ultra-fine caco3 powder is better, and the blending of ultra-fine caco3 powder and polypropylene can be used as the raw material of electroplating grade polypropylene.
2.3.The performance test of polypropylene modified by ultra-fine caco3 powder, the test data are shown in Table 3. The test results show that with the increase of the content of caco3 powder, the tensile strength tends to decrease obviously. comparing the physical and mechanical properties, the content of ultra-fine caco3 powder is 15% to 25%.
2.4 the coarsening of polypropylene modified by ultra-fine caco3 powder, the composition of the coarsening liquid and the process conditions are shown in Section 2.2. The experimental data are shown in Table 4. The experimental results show that the coarsening time of modified polypropylene decreases with the increase of the content of ultra-fine caco3 powder.
2.5 different properties of multi-component blending needle for different materials, high molecular reinforcers were added to improve the tensile strength and impact strength of modified polypropylene. The physical and mechanical properties of polypropylene were tested by blending 25% ultra-fine caco3 powder with self-made reinforcer An and imported reinforcer B. the test values are shown in Table 5, and then the coarsening test is carried out. The composition of the coarsening solution and section 2.2 are mentioned before the process. The test results show that when reinforcer An is added to the blending, its rigidity and toughness are better than those blended with ultra-fine caco3 powder alone. The addition of high molecular enhancer has no effect on coarsening.
Through the above experiments, the electroplating grade polypropylene plastics were prepared by blending 25% ultra-fine caco3 powder with polypropylene, and the reinforced electroplating grade polypropylene plastics were prepared by the blending products of 5% reinforcer An and 25% ultra-fine caco3 powder with polypropylene. Deoiling, neutralizing, washing, ultrasonic acid solution coarsening, sensitizing, activating, electroless copper plating, copper plating, bright nickel plating, chromium plating. The product coating is completely disconnected by bending method to test whether the coating is spalling or not. through the test, it is found that the adhesion of the coating is outstanding, and the adhesion is still outstanding after removing the coating and coarsening electroplating.
The results showed that the ultrafine caco3 powder was uniformly distributed in the polypropylene plastic. In the acidic medium, the dissolution of caco3 on the plastic surface resulted in more holes on the plastic surface, which greatly increased the specific surface area of the plastic and changed the surface crystallinity. Under the action of oxidant, the c bond on the polypropylene surface was broken and oxidized to hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, thus achieving the purpose of hydrophilicity. Under the action of ultrasonic wave, the coarsening speed can be accelerated and a smooth surface can be obtained, so as to improve the adhesion between the coating and the substrate.
Conclusion Electroplating grade polypropylene plastics are prepared by blending modified polypropylene with ultra-fine caco3 powder, and the rigidity and toughness of the plastics are improved by adding reinforcer A. after coarsening, sensitization, activation and copper plating, copper, nickel and chromium coatings with excellent adhesion can be obtained.
