Pearl nickel, also known as satin nickel and sardine nickel (satin nicke1), is a kind of excellent protective and decorative coating with milky white appearance, soft gloss, low internal stress and good corrosion resistance.

The pearl nickel plating process first appeared in the late 1950s and developed rapidly after the 1990s.

Pearl nickel can be directly used as a protective decorative coating, can also be coated on pearl nickel with other metals, such as chromium, gold, silver, etc., to form sand chromium, gold and silver, its protective decoration effect is stronger.

At present, pearl nickel coating has been widely used in automobile decoration, electronic products, daily hardware, cultural goods and other industries.

The early pearl nickel coating was obtained by mechanical method, the surface of the coating obtained by this method is rough, dull, and labor-intensive, and has been gradually eliminated.

At present, there are generally two methods of pearl nickel plating: composite plating and emulsifier method. the application of the former method is limited because the gloss of pearl nickel coating is not ideal and the bath is difficult to maintain.

The latter method is to add Nonionic surfactant with low cloud point to Watt nickel plating solution to form an emulsion, and use the adsorption and desorption of droplets on the cathode surface to obtain pearl nickel coating. The pearl nickel coating prepared by this method has numerous overlapping pits on the surface, showing a soft pearl effect macroscopically, but in the industrial production process, the plating solution needs to be equipped with hot and cold circulation device, and the operation is more complicated.
