What is the principle of PVD vacuum coating?


In the ion coating (PVD coating) technology, the principle is to use low-voltage, high-current arc discharge technology under vacuum conditions, using gas discharge to evaporate the target material and ionize the evaporated substance, under the action of the electric field, evaporated The substance or its reaction product is deposited on the workpiece.


The film layer plated by PVD coating technology has the characteristics of high hardness, high wear resistance (low friction coefficient), good corrosion resistance and chemical stability, etc., and the life of the film is longer; at the same time, the film can be greatly improved Improve the appearance and decoration performance of the workpiece.


PVD coating technology is an environmentally friendly surface treatment method that can truly obtain micron-level coatings and is pollution-free. It can prepare a variety of single metal films (such as aluminum, titanium, zirconium, chromium, etc.), nitride films (TiN (titanium gold) ], ZrN [Zirconium Gold], CrN, TiAlN) and carbide films (TiC, TiCN), and oxide films (such as TiO, etc.).


The thickness of the PVD coating film is micron level, and the thickness is relatively thin, generally, 0.1μm~5μm and the thickness of the decorative coating film is generally 0.1μm~1μm, so the surface of the workpiece can be improved without affecting the original size of the workpiece. It has various physical and chemical properties and can maintain the size of the workpiece basically unchanged, and no further processing is required after plating.


What is the difference between vacuum plating and water plating? 


1. Different definitions:


Water electroplating, also known as wet electroplating, as its name implies, is related to water and aqueous solution. The principle of electrochemical reaction is a chemical process. 

Due to the heavy use of water / aqueous solution, the pollution is large. 

Vacuum plating, in fact, can not be called electroplating, it is usually a physical change or chemical change, but not an electrochemical process. 

There are many kinds of vacuum plating, and electric field transfer technology is widely used. 


2. Different scope of application: 


Electroplating is generally suitable for ABS material and ABS+PC material products. 

The main process is to put the products that need electroplating into the electroless plating solution for electroplating. 

According to the different needs of customers, can be plated into different colors, with highlight silver, sub-silver, gray silver, gun color, gold, black chrome, and semi-light chromium. 

Vacuum plating because the electrical conductivity of the electroplated products is significantly enhanced, there are two ways for some parts that need to be insulated: first, apply insulating oil to the parts that need insulation, so that the part will not be electroplated during electroplating, so as to achieve the effect of insulation! 

Of course, the part coated with insulation oil will turn black, so it is not suitable to be used as an appearance surface. 

Second, the parts that need electroplating are pasted with special adhesive tape and protected, so as to achieve the effect of insulation. 


3. The characteristics are different: 


Because of its simple process and less stringent requirements from equipment to the environment, hydroelectric plating is widely used. 

There is a weakness in electroplating, which can only be plated with ABS and ABS+ PC. 

The vacuum plating can reach about 200 ℃, which can be electroplated for the parts used at high temperatures.

It is generally used as a functional coating for more high-end products. 

Also known as vacuum coating: generally applicable to a wide range of products, such as ABS material, ABS+PC material, and PC material. 

At the same time, because of its complex technological process, and high requirements of environment and equipment, the unit price is more expensive than that of hydropower plating. 

This paper briefly introduces its technological process: product surface cleaning, static electricity removal-- spray primer-- > baking primer-- > vacuum coating-- > spray paint-- > baking topcoat-- > packaging. 

Vacuum plating can be divided into general vacuum plating, UV vacuum plating, and vacuum plating special; the process includes evaporation, sputtering, gun color, and so on. 


The difference between Water electroplating & vacuum plating: 


Because of its simple process and less stringent requirements from equipment to the environment, hydroelectric plating is widely used. 

Hydroelectric plating has a weakness, can only be plated with ABS material and ABS+PC material (this material plating effect is not very ideal). 

However, the temperature resistance of ABS material is only 80 ℃, which limits its application range. 

Vacuum plating can reach about 200 ℃, which can be used in high-temperature parts that can be electroplated. 

Such as tuyere, and tuyere rings using PC material, these parts are required to withstand the high temperature of 130C. 

In addition, the general requirements of high-temperature parts, and vacuum plating must be sprayed in the last layer of UV oil, so that the product surface is glossy, and has high-temperature resistance while ensuring adhesion. 


Advantages and disadvantages of Water electroplating & vacuum plating:

1, to put it simply, such as vacuum plating but UV oil, its adhesion is very poor, can not pass 100 TEST, and water plating is obviously better than vacuum plating. 

Therefore, in order to ensure the adhesion of vacuum plating, it is necessary to carry out special spraying treatment, and the cost is certainly higher. 

2, the color of hydro electroplating is relatively monotonous, generally only sub-silver, gray silver, gun color, gold, black chromium, semi-light chromium, and other colorful colors are powerless. 

However, vacuum plating can solve the problem of seven colors.
